Week 10 Rankings: Brawlers Join the Elite, Beavers Fall With Peterson
The ranks of the pretenders is growing to the point where they will become the contenders by default. #1 Capo and #2 Flannel get mulligans for this week. Just don't let it happen again. Brawlers were the largest gainer and Beavers the largest fall.
1) Capo. They couldn't keep scoring 100 pts every week. RB has been their season long issue, so Brandon Jacobs gets called up for a try-out. No change. [Last 4 games grade: A+, Offense A+, Defense A]
2) Flannel. Flannel manage to own the only two healthy skill players in Indianapolis. Which will make them wonder if that is going to keep impacting Manning and Addai like it did last week? Lets wait and see. No change. [Grades: A, Offense A, Defense A+]
3) Brawlers. If you are not already on the Brawlers' band-wagon, good seats are going fast. Three really good offensive games in a row is a trend in my book. Unlike the beginning of the season, its not all on Favre which means they could win a couple close ones if they had to. The defense is even improving, its still not good, but... Up 3. [Grades: A, Offense A+, Defense D]
4) Hamburglers. This team hasn't changed much in the last 4 weeks, but consistent 70 pt games will win more often than they lose. Up 1. [Grades: B, Offense A, Defense F-]
5) Rednecks. This drop had more to do with Brawlers' and Hamburglers' resurgance than anything Rednecks did wrong. In fact, Rednecks got just enough from Bulger this week to win (ugly) without Brady. Down 1. [Grades: C, Offense B, Defense D]
6) Drow. Sure, they played better this week. But they probably don't move in the rankings if Beavers have a healthy Peterson. Up 1. [Grades: C-, Offense B-, Defense C-]
7) Beavers. Without even seeing who the next man up is, we'll put Beavers here. Peterson may not have been consistent, but no one else is going to go for 40 every couple games. Down 4. [Grades: C, Offense B-, Defense C]
8) Ramjets. The Ramjets D got just enough from the offense this week to gut out a win. That defense is playing as well as anyone's right now and is the only reason they have a chance on any given weekend. Up 1. [Grades: C-, Offense C-, Defense A]
9) Malleus. The week 6 explosion for this offense was definitely an aberration. I've been saying all year that their lack of explosive offense will kill them. Unlike with my earlier support of Bill, repeating has made it so. Down 1. [Grades: C-, Offense C-, Defense C]
10) Bill. Oops. Instead of a pulse, last week may have been the perfect example of the dead cat bounce. At least they've bounced. No change. [Grades: C-, Offense D, Defense D+]
11) Old No. 7. The asterick and Mimes' impressive offense moves them up one spot on the charts. Up 1. [Grades: F-, Offense F-, Defense B+]
12) Mimes. The defense shows up only to have the offense score the worst point total of the season, fo any team. Down 1. [Grades: D-, Offense D+, Defense F-]

I guess if the Beavers lost a game, we'd move down to 12th.
There continues to be a lot of confusion on these rankings. While Haydn's are fine rankings over 10 weeks. That's not what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to capture a snap shot of how the team is right now.
Doesn't matter if you won or lost last week. What matters is how have you been scoring over the last 4 weeks. Then I factor in some future looking information like recent injuries.
I'll put out a season long ranking at the end of the season. But the purpose of my rankings is to capture who is the better team right this second. Not over the course of the season.
Understanding only gets in the way of being able to complain. It is much more fun to gripe. 8)
