Final Preseason Ranking
In fact, this will likely be my final ranking for several weeks 'cause there will just not be much new information until we've played a couple real games and trend lines of actual results can be looked at. Mostly for this ranking I looked at offensive positions not named kicker because I feel pretty confident that predicting player value at kicker and defense is a crap shoot so I'll stick with predictions with marginal value instead of none.
A Cut Above
1) Old No. 7 (up 6 from pre-draft ranking)
Clearly the guy helped most by the draft, Jason picked up one of the elite players in the game and instantly became my new #1 team. Jason's WRs remain pretty good as well.
2) Rednecks (down 1)
Of course, in true Middle Division fashion, the #2 team comes from that division as well. RB and WR depth are the strengths of this team but the QB is no slouch either.
3) Drow (down 1)
Essentially the same team as Rednecks, RB and WR are strong in Murrysville with a solid QB to back them up.
Hoping to Play with the Big Boys?
4) CAPO (up 1)
Ryan Matthews steps in as the day 1 starter and improves this team where Moss and Brees remain the strength of the franchise.
5) Bill (down 1)
Given the improvements CAPO and Old No 7 drafted, Bill didn't really fall as much as tread water here. CJ2K is still the core of the team.
The Solid Middle of the Pack
6) Mimes (up 2)
I think Gates improves their WR corps a bit.
7) Beavers (down 1)
Sims-Walker and Wallace will provide depth at WR for a team with solid play at QB and RB.
8) Hamburglers (up 2)
Jamaal Charles should improve the starting line-up's biggest flaw entering the draft.
9) Ramjets (down 6)
I'm also a bit surprised Roger dropped that much in this ranking. But Sidney Rice was his #1 receiver and is now broken. I think this slide says as much about how little separates teams in the middle of the pack.
10) Malleus (up 2)
The trade for Eli was huge. He may have been Roger's back-up but he'll be a ton better then Ben for the first 4 games of the season. The team is now respectable.
Works in Progress
11) ICL (down a little)
Not much of a surprise here, Arian Foster could provide more solidity to the running game but they still lack a good top WR, at least until Calvin Johnson lives up to the hype on a consistent basis.
12) Flannel (down 4)
They weren't a great team before the franchising error and lost the best player at one of the hardest positions to fix -- QB. Unless Derek Anderson repeats his one year of Cleveland glory that position will hurt Clay all year. Clay is also lacking a top WR to match up with the #2s he does have.
