Rules Committee Report: Rosters, Franchising, and Free Agency
Rosters and player acquisition became a huge topic for us this year. We're done with most of it but are still debating proposed changes to the draft. So here's an update of what we've decided so far.
- Roster Size increased to 21
- Franchising increased to 10
- Franchise minimum values lowered to $0 for all players
- Free Agent minimum bids lowered to $1 for all players
- Cost to move a practice squad player to the active roster mid-season reduced to $2 for all players
We talked about slush money... the total given each year and the amount available to carry over and decided to make no change at this time but to review next off season.
The roster size increase was in direct response to adding the flex position to the starting roster.
Franchising was increased as part of a generic proposal in addition to acknowledging the new flex position.
The free agent minimum bid change had two-justifications. One was just an attempt to make free agency easier to engage in / increase the number of available transactions during the season. Setting one number for all position was an acknowledgment that our scoring changes that more balance between the position such a single number was justifiable and certainly easier. This concept of flattening the pricing scale was extended to the PS player activation cost (which has also traditionally been twice the FA minimum bid) and the franchise minimum values.
