Franchising Review
Back to player acquisition. How was franchising go this year? Well for most as we already know.
There are definitely some tiers here. Most of the league got around 1 to 1.5 additional value over median. Lagers and Old No. 7 did at least twice as well as everyone else. Drow ended up somewhere between the league and the top tier and Mimes were really let down by their franchised players.
What happened at the top and bottom.
Lagers had three players they franchised that were core elements of their team: Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, and Matthew Stafford. Each played at least 10 games. Each had 7 top 3rd games. None had more than 2 bottom 3rd games. Thomas and Stafford had VOMs of 4.9 and 4.2 and Calvin was my MVP runner-up with an 8.1 VOM. Morgan Burnett and Derrick Johnson also provided good value for Lagers. Only Arian Foster and Matt Schaub hurt the ballclub. Roddy White did not see a start.
Old No. 7 had Peyton -- unanimous league MVP. That's where most of Old No. 7's franchising success came from but also got three very good games out of Gronk before he got hurt and got a solid 13 games from Torrey Smith. Sproles provided some value in spot duty. But Greg Jennings had a lackluster 9 games and Janikowski did the same for 13 games. Weeden and Bradford did not get a game in for mostly obvious reasons.
Drow saw 11 very solid games from Adrian Peterson and A.J. Green. Harrison Smith, Randall Cobb, and Aaron Rodgers had some solid outings. Doug Martin did well in 2 games. Bobby Wagner was ok for 7 games. Andy Dalton was the only clunker over 2 games.
On the other end of the scale, Mimes really only saw one of his franchised players pay dividends as Charles Tillman was a very respectable starter for 10 games. Reggie Bush was ok over 5 games. But the rest of the crew did not do well. Dwayne Bowe and Patrick Peterson were essentially average over 12 and 11 games. Cameron Wake was a disappointment over 10 games and Josh Freeman was terrible for 2 games. LaMarr Woodley and Peyton Hillis did not start.
