FLOF Rules Committee Report: The Draft
Honestly, I think we were a bit burned out on rules suggestions at this point, but the valiant committee members slogged through and we even made one final change to how the draft lottery works.
- In addition to the ping pong balls assigned to teams in the lottery based on their record, ping pong balls will be assigned based on their power rankings. So the worst power ranking among those 6 teams will get 6 more balls, etc. Teams will now have between 2 and 12 ping pong balls based on record and power ranking before the lottery is drawn.
We considered a number of other items but decided to make no other changes at this time.
We talked about the idea that had been discussed last year about making the draft a week-long email affair instead of the hours long "live" online draft. The problem was that we could not figure out a way to do this that was not just trading out one set of problems for a different set. Also, because franchising has expanded the actual draft is likely to be about 2 rounds shorter than usual so that could help with the length of a live draft.
We briefly raised three other concepts: should we increase the draft because we added another starter and increased roster sizes by 1? should we allow people to draft college kids, CFL players and the like? should we institute a holdout concept I heard about? We said no to all of those.
Thanks again to the committee (Darin, Jamie, John, Tim, and Jason) for their time and effort.
