Draft Predictions Review
And... how did I do?
1.01 Rednecks took Dez Bryant (WR, Dal)
I said John would take Tannehill. He took Tannehill with the 2.01. For the record, I like this pick although I would have understood the pick of Tannehill at 1.01. But because he ended up with the players I had as the #1 talent available on my board and the top QB prospect available on my board I heartily endorse this pick.
But for the record I was Wrong
1.02 Dynasty took Vernon Davis (WR, SF)
Well, I knew I didn't know how Jamien would approach the draft, but I did not see this coming. I thought maybe he would come in with the common fantasy obsession with RBs and take Steven Jackson. I do not really like the pick, but I do understand the train of thought that could rank him pretty highly as a WR this year. Also, maybe he came in with the slightly more advanced fantasy impression that elite TEs are gold.
I was Wrong
1.03 Mimes take Eddie Lacy (RB, GB)
Darin would address WR later this round so my prediction of Vincent Jackson wasn't horrible. I don't dislike this pick. Lacy could be the most impactful rookie this year and he was my top ranked RB talent available.
I was Wrong
1.04 Maniacs take Carson Palmer (QB, Ari)
I knew I wanted Mike W in the league for a reason! However, despite making me look good, I don't like the pick. If QB is a problem, Carson Palmer doesn't do more then stop-gap it for a year or two. That's why I like someone like Tannehill better as a QB. Sure, we don't know if Tannehill will be great or even good, but we know Carson Palmer is out of the league is 2 years and is not going to be very good in between that time.
I was Right!
1.05 Capo takes Reggie Wayne (WR, Ind)
Wayne is pretty fungible for Steve Smith / Vincent Jackson here (I predicted Steve Smith). Older veterans who are in the mix to have good years. I can't quibble with Chris taking Wayne instead of either of them. And I'm giving myself credit.
I was Close Enough.
1.06 Hamburglers take Steve Smith (WR, Car)
Well Dez Bryant (my prediction) wasn't available which means the people in front of Jamie were smarter then I gave them credit for. And I'm giving myself credit (after essentially insulting 5 owners in the league).
I was Close Enough.
1.07 Old No 7 take Cordarrelle Patterson (WR, Min)
I predicted Giovani Bernard because Jason does a good job picking rookies early and Gio had the most rookie surge going in. But I actually had Patterson ranked as my #1 rookie talent this year so I certainly like the pick.
I was Wrong
1.08 Bronies take Giovani Bernard (RB, Cin)
I thought Mike A would go rookie WR with maybe Tavon Austin. Bronies would trade back in and grab a different rookie WR next pick. I'll give myself credit for that pick but not this one.
I was Wrong
1.09 Bronies take DeAndre Hopkins (WR, Hou)
See above. I'm ignoring the fact that this was originally Bill's pick since it got auctioned. And for the record, I like this pick. Between Bernard and Hopkins, Bronies pick up two really good prospects at the skill positions. That's what I think needs to get done in round 1.
I was Close Enough
1.10 Malleus take James Laurinaitus (DF, Stl)
James Laurinaitus , Jerod Mayo. Tomato, Tomatoe. All DFs look the same to me at draft time. And while I hate the concept of taking D in round 1, I understand the issue of feeling like you already have skill position talent and not a ton of draft picks and just really need to start picking players you are going to need next week when we play actual games.
I was Close Enough.
1.11 Lagers take Montee Ball (RB, Den)
My second prefect prediction on the year. My scouts are not high on Ball. I would have taken someone else here, even if I wanted to restrict myself to Tim's need for a back-up RB. I think I would have grabbed Lamar Miller. Although I would rather have taken a prospect and filled the back-up RB need later. I mean Tim knows I'm holding on to Tate for him just in case Foster gets hurt and Tim needs him.
I was Right!
1.12 Mimes take Tavon Austin (WR, StL)
Right, so Darin took Tavon Austin... not Jordy Nelson... but it was still a WR? Whatever. I'm tired.
I was Close Enough.
So, 5 wrongs, 2 rights, and 5 close enoughs. I'm going to take that as a win.
