Tight Ends
We talked about adding a TE spot to the starting roster.
The negative aspects mostly centered around what, if anything, it would add to our love of FLOF and more importantly the impact this would have on roster sizes, the draft and a need to counter-balance defense with an added starting roster spot on that side of the ball.
The proposal was shelved for this off-season.

A couple of thoughts:
more importantly the impact this would have on roster sizes - I believe there was also a propasal to shrink the roster size. This would eliminate that need. We are talking 2 roster spots here, mostly likely a starting TE and a backup. I don't see where this affect the roster adversely.
the draft - am I the only one that remembers we typically have a full house for the first 3-4 rounds of the draft, then the mass exodus of people afterwards? Maybe this would cut back (but probably not eliminate) the wholesale sell-off of some of the later rounds.
and a need to counter-balance defense with an added starting roster spot on that side of the ball - why do we need a counter-balance? In most fanatasy formats I've seen, you run a team D out there and that's it. Now I don't want to turn this into just another fantasy league, but I am not sure how this differs much from the flex position that was discussed.
I'm not real sure that people are going to stick around so they can draft a TE.
I think you are simply presenting the flip side of the same arguments I was making. If we are trying to shrink the draft and roster size adding starting roster spots is going to make that difficult.
In regards to the counter-balance concept. There is a general sense in the rules committee that we try to keep offense and defense roughly in a 2:1 ratio.
Why? Honestly, we've never challenged the notion. My own feeling is that it provides a consistent feel to the games. Balance between offense and defense and between individual players has been a goal of the league since the early years.
