Week 1: Rednecks over Old No. 7, again; Beavers take bite out of Capo
The Middle Division sorted itself out some with Malleus showing for at least a game that it could hang with the big dogs in this division. Old No. 7 proved again that it just can not beat Rednecks. Meanwhile, the tough Right Division dominated a weak Left Division. With the notable exception of Beavers, who rode a couple rookies to a strong victory over Capo.
Plaxico Burress was named player of the week and offensive player of the week. Peyton Manning had one more point, but Plax is a receiver. Julian Peterson was named defensive player of the week after a stat recount. This was the 3rd consecutive DPoW award for a Drow player going back to the end of last season.
J.P. Losman was named goat of the week for his -3 pt performance for Brawlers this week. Drew Brees gets the honorable mention for posting -3 in a painful week 1 loss for Capo. But Brawlers actually would have won if they hadn't started any QB at all. Hard to top that.
LaDainian Tomlinson became only the third player to eclipse 1,000 career FLOF points -- joining Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb.
Rednecks 46 @ No. 7 21:
Rednecks continue to own Old No. 7. Plaxico had one of the biggest performances of the day while Ed Reed contributed on defense and with a return TD.
Next week: Rednecks host Beavers; Old No. 7 host Drow.
Bill 29 @ Malleus 29:
Jon Kitna came over to Malleus just prior to the draft and willed this offense back to life, finally providing some support for their excellent WRs. Bill got solid performances from Palmer and Alexander but could not get over the hump and this hard fought game ended in a tie.
Next wee: Bill host Mimes; Malleus host Brawlers.
Capo 21 @ Beavers 33:
Rookie Adrian Peterson paced the Beavers with 16 pts while Drew Brees produced 3 turnovers in a -3 pt performance that helped counter strong games from Terrell Owens and Travis Henry. Was this just a stumble or are the Gods laughing at Capo?
Next week: Beavers at Rednecks, Capo at Hamburglers.
Hamburglers 53 @ Mimes 12:
Roethlisberger provided the QBing Hamburglers had been missing the second part of last season and suddenly they looked like the unbeatable Hamburglers of mid-2006. Unfortunately a Mimes team that could have gone either way... went south, at least for this week.
Next week: Hamburgers host Capo; Mimes at Bill.
Flannel 24 @ Drow 5:
Flannel ended last season strong. The off season appears to have added little rust. Solid work from Manning and Addai made short work of a bad Drow offense. This would have been uglier if not for Julian Peterson's efforts.
Next week: Flannel at Ramjets; Drow at Old No. 7.
Ramjets 6 @ Brawlers 4:
Neither team deserved a win, but Ramjets made it look good at the end with Matt Stover providing enough on Monday night to overcome Brawlers' small lead for the Ramjet victory.
Next week: Ramjets host Flannel; Brawlers at Malleus.
